Watch guest reactions to your ultimate theme park! Build your own water slide or create your own safari with real animals. RCT3 Platinum combines the roller coaster theme park fun of the Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 with included expansion packs Soaked! and Wild! Now enjoy more options than ever. TLDR they didn't include an old feature, and I'm mad as hell, still a good game tho.Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum combines the excitement of rollercoasters with the fun of great strategy sim. However, that next level of potential geekery that I can still visualise back on my Packard Bell in 2005 with my most rose-tinted glasses has not managed to make it through to 2020, and that's kind of disappointing. I still love RCT3 for Switch the sandbox mode is a laugh and a blank canvas for any budding coaster designer, and the story mode is there for us geeks who want to get into the minutiae of ride servicing times and the price of cheese(burgers). It is in the custom scenario mode that you can really put your theme park management chops to the test on a constricted budget with awful terrain and a debt problem-what a dream.īut the dream is not alive. Annoyingly, to even notice that mode is missing, you have to love the game, or at least want to play a lot more of it. Evidently, as a couple of reviewers who seemingly don't kiss their mothers with those mouths have already pointed out, this mode is missing. At least, I thought you went to custom scenario mode. Unfortunately, much like sandbox mode's super-giga-mega-coaster approach, story mode eventually becomes passe and ultimately unchallenging once a player has completed ten or more other scenarios. To meet the requirements for level completion, you will have to turn your park into a lucrative business, and in doing so, you will see the transformation from flailing one-ride-wonder into powerhouse super-park. Even still, the story mode is addictive and often rewarding. The latter is incredibly annoying when it comes to animal keepers, and they essentially need constant supervision. There is, as with any simulation game, some moments of tedium in the park maintenance such as planning queue lengths and (sigh) managing employees. The story mode is a substantial offering, managing to show players how to craft an intelligently designed park while still letting them go off the rails (as-it-were) now and then. An impressive amount of levels featuring different themed parks, all with independent three-tiered objectives that consist of anything from impressing a specific VIP guest with the cleanliness of your park to making enough moolah to pay off a significant debt you have inherited. You head to the story mode, that's what you do. Much like that impulse, the enjoyment wears thin quick. Here is the attraction for many newcomers, a commonly shared sadistic urge akin to the infamous 'trapped sims in a burning building' scene. Admittedly when I downloaded my copy at launch, I was relatively unphased by the lack of custom scenarios when the ever-inviting sandbox mode caught my eye, and I was once again eleven years old and building death coasters. The 'complete addition' has both an incredibly playable story mode and classic offering-of-the-obtuse sandbox mode but has, for some reason, removed the opportunity for the player to create their own custom scenarios.īefore you shout 'pedant', yes I know, most playing RCT3 on the Switch either don't notice or don't care about this missing feature. RCT3 is an entertaining and engaging game, ailed only by its disappointing limitations.
